yesterday, a national review article claimed that the sandy hook tragedy occurred because women were running the school. and what the school needed was "male aggression for protection." the article made no mention of the fact that male aggression was the problem. this same sexist and frankly insane line of reasoning is what keeps women out of military combat even though they have time and again proven to be heroes. like kimberly munley, the police officer who took down the shooter in the 2009 fort hood massacre that killed 14 people. last month four female service members and the aclu filed a federal lawsuit to overturn the pentagon's exclusion of women from combat. they argue that the restrictions are unconstitutional and have created "a brass ceiling." i love that. the plaintiffs all have served in iraq or afghanistan in dangerous combat-related missions. two even have purple hearts, a combat declaration after being wounded on the battlefield. zoe bedell is one of the plaintiffs. she joins me here in new york to discuss why this exclusion needs to be overturned. captain, welcome to

six staff members of sandy hook elementary school dead. the alleged gunman's mother also dead. but for anybody waiting for that initial nra statement that seems to come every time something like this happens the immediate statement about their sadness for the tragedy and then a statement a couple days later about how this isn't the time to talk about policy, it did not happen that way this time. they're breaking pattern. this time the nra went completely dark online for several days. various nra news personalities, they sponsor like news shows that's just talk radio that's pro nra. they spouted their beliefs about gun control. but nobody paid attention to that. in terms of an official statement from the group, the nra as an organization did not put out a statement of any kind until four days after the newtown attack. and at first it seemed to follow the nra pattern. they're just going to express their sadness, right? and say this isn't the time that talk about policy. but this statement actually was different. first, superstorm sandy. thousands of homes destroyed. one hundred people died in that event. devastation that many of us are still trying to recover from. right here in the building i'm sitting in, people who work here are waiting for homes to be rebuilt. enjoying the holidays from temporary shelter. then there was the newtown, connecticut, massacre. that has influence the attitudes of friends and families and people i know. the tragedy of that day just a week ago, in which 26 people lost their lives, 24 of them were children between the ages of five and 10. it hangs over this usually happy season. even so, i feel grateful this year. maybe more than usual for my colleagues here at fox. with my friends and my family. we live in a country that yes, has its problems. and we talk about those problems everyday on the show. but the bottom line is this. you wouldn't want to live anywhere else, would you? i sure wouldn't. we have freedom, we have opportunity, and many of us, most of us have a roof over our heads and a safe place to sleep at night. the icing on the cake will be wrappe
